DIY: Boot Socks & Beanie

At our latest Chic Academy Fashion Club meeting we learned how to make boot socks out of an old or thrifted sweater! Check out our Youtube video for a visual demonstration! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-mlB1PCRGg

DIY Boot Socks

What you'll need:

--an old sweater
--scissors
--needle and thread (optional)
--buttons, studs, etc. ( optional)

Thrifted, Out of Grandpas closet, Clothing Sale... Hey whatever works!

Steps:

1.  The first and only step is to cut off the sleeves of your sweater in a straight line, once your done you can slip them onto your legs and see how they look! ** you can also sew or glue on buttons and studs to spice things up a bit!***

DIY Beanie

What you'll need:

--the sweater you made with your boot socks
--scissors
--needle & thread OR fabric glue

Steps:

1. Take the same sweater that you made your boot socks with and cut in a straight line directly underneath the arm pits.

2. Next, fold the fabric into 3 Sections. It's just like folding a piece if paper that will go inside of an envelope.
Be sure to measure the sweater around your head to make sure if it fits, if the sweater is too big you will just cut off the excess material! After you fold the material into 3 sections, at the top of the beanie cut a half circle/ dome shape.**keep in mind that this will be the shape of your beanie. After you finish this step, fold the beanie in half and it should look something like this:

3. Next, you will get your fabric glue or needle and thread and sew up the side of your beanie. ( I pinned up the side of my beanie so it could stay in place while I sewed)

4. The last step is to sew all the sides together so your beanie bundles in the middle. After the sides are sewed all together you should have a hole in the middle, you will also need to sew the hole closed. The finished product should look like this.

Alaina Aylward: Personal Style

My fashion sense, I think, goes hand and hand with my artistic mindset and attitude. I like layering and putting things together in a creative composition. I look at every day as a new opportunity to show a different side of myself, my personality or how I'm feeling. I think clothes are an extension of my personality and it effects how the world (and myself) sees me. I describe my style as miscellaneous and eclectic, I'll dress totally grunge one day then preppy or vintage the next day, I just to like keep people guessing and I would get bored if I didn't. I love being creative with my style I make a lot of my clothes, and jewelry cool hunt habitually.

Face Masks, Beauty tips and Health

Our teenage years are when our skin is the most sensitive and its important to be aware of what we put on our skin. Facial cleansers that contain a number of chemicals can be harsh on our skins. Using facial scrubs that are more nature or contain natural ingredients are better. But the best scrubs to use are made by using homeade remedies. Oatmeal scrubs and apricot scrubs are very effective as well as masks. One that has worked for me personally is the Oatmeal mask.

You take:
    -1/2 cup of hot water
    - 1/3 oats
    - 2 tsp. yogurt
    - 2 tsp. honey
    - 1 egg white

**Let it set for 10-15 minutes and rinse.

Oatmeal moisturizes, repairs and softens your skin. other foods that helps hydrate your skin and prevent wrinkles are yogurt and chocolate.

Now stress overload is a huge problem among all of us and you have to find a way to manage stress. A few helpful tips are:
  1.  Listening to music: jam out everyday
  2.  Exercise: Stress produces chemicals that make you tense, execerise releases endorphins which make you happy:)
  3. Getting enough sleep
  4.  Deep breathes
  5.  Eating FULL meals (dont skip, cut down on junk, get enough iron and calcium which is something that all girls are low on.)
  6. Drink water: you feel tired when your dehydrated
  7. Discuss your problems; Vent! It takes a huge load off and you get back good advice.

I hope this helps add to your daily life and remember love the skin your in:)
