Trending Fall 2014- Winter 2015: Folkloric Fashion
Next year’s fall and winter trends are Rocker, Boudoir, Pro Sport, and Folkloric. I chose the Folkloric style for my looks. This concept applies to all levels of the fashion industry including couture, ready-to-wear, mass market, as well as street wear.
You might wonder what the “Folkloric” fashion trend actually is.....
Definition of Folkloric- Folklore consists of legends, music, and customs included in the traditions of a culture, subculture, or group.
I researched the predicted colors, trends, fabrics and styles that will be presented for attire in the upcoming Fall 2014- 2015 year. I used reliable fashion forecasting databases such as WGSN , Harpers Bazaar , Fashion Snoops , Panetone and Trend Hunter as well as searching through my favorite fashion blogs covering runway trends during fashion week.
Urban Outfitters and Free People especially are great examples of folkloric fashions. Check it out here and here !
As predicted and Interpered in Fashion the Folkloric trend consists of: bohemian style with tapestry and elaborate embroidery evoked by tradishional Eastern European cultures with patchwork, Enriched patterns and in sleek silhouettes, gilded sportswear and armor-like tailoring.
Back to school time an important shopping time for high school and college students alike. People want to reinvent their looks and start the year off right to make good impressions, feel good and be on trend with what’s happening in fashion. It’s a giant promotional period for stores and a significant part of the US retail Industry. The money made in this season is only surpassed in November- December months for the Holiday season!
The demographics of my target market include female students ranging in age from 15-22 who live on a lower to middle income range and attend high school or college. They are artistic hands on people with creative and laid back jobs such as careers in the art, music, fashion or entertainment industry.
The Psychographics of my specific target customer consists of social, laid back, free spirited and trendy young adults interested in fashion, music and art. They spend their leisure time being creative, listening to Alternitive music or hinging out with friends and taking weekend road trips. They can be reached thru social media and blogs or promotional events such as trend campaigns or shopping events.
I went to a local donation only clothing sale and got everything I needed for my folkloric outfits. I spent $15 leaving me the remaining $5 in my budget for thread, zippers and notions. I love redoing clothing I get thrifting or at clothing sales! It cuts costs, its one of a kind and I love the hunt! Its the biggest thrill when you are find your diamond in the ruff or especially when you make upcycle something so dated or out of style and turn it into something you love!
I sketched out my designs then patterned and constructed my garments. I then styled the ensembles with coordinating accessories for my campaign to give buyer appeal to my intended audience.
