Chic Academy It Girl: Hayley Hyer

Read further to get a peek in this beauty's best advice, tips and style secrets! Down to earth, gorgous, stylish and majorly inspiring! Here's Chic Academy's exclusive interview with Novembers It Girl Hayley Hyer!

CA- When It Girl: Hayley Hyer was asked to describe her oh so ever changing style she told us.....

Hyer- My style can be really diverse depending on where I am or how I feel. I love dressing classy and professionally when appropriate, but sometimes I can look more bohemian. The majority of my clothes are a girly chic look. But I also have days when I just want to wear some yoga pants and a tshirt.

CA- Doesn't everyone have those days! OK so we have girly, bohemian, classic and chic.... I have to know whats your go-to store when shopping for your style??
Hyer- Urban outfitters is just my favorite. Although pricey at times, it is always unique, and one piece from there can make a whole outfit.
CA- I hear your bohemian side talking haha! You cant beat UO for their fun, free-spirited finds!! So whats your favorite outfit right now???

Hyer-As it's fall right now, I'm obsessed with sweaters, leggings, scarves and boots. But not uggs. I'm not a fan of those!! I like riding boots and combat boots best.

CA- Good choice & great tip!! Uggs just don't flatter those nice legs like a nice riding or combat boot can! And they pair so perfectly with the fall uniform (slouchy sweater, warm leggings and killer boots!!) OK we gotta know- and this is deep- is there any style you have always wanted to try but been to afraid to??

Hyer- I think I'm a hippy at heart sometimes, and I have always wanted to dress like one!

CA- That's adorable! Well it can be a Halloween costume until you build up the confidence... or maybe not! Haha If you wanna bring out the big guns and make a statement what do you wear??

Hyer- I'm a perfectionist, so I'm all about making sure everything flows and has purpose. I try to coordinate and have an overall look of togetherness. Each piece of clothing and accessory must compliment the others.

CA- That was beautiful! I'm gonna quote you on that!! That brings us to what do you think is the biggest fashion faux-paw! What bugs you the most??

Hyer-I'm really weird about little things like wrinkles or if a belt makes as a big bump under a shirt. I think things looks best when they all lay right. I don't want anything that unintentionally draws attention!

CA- OCD makes for a dang good outfit I guess haha! Next question.... What's your best bargain shopping?? SPILL YOUR SECRETS!
Hyer- Thrifting is so much fun! There's always little treasures waiting to be found, and you just have to be patient to look through everything. I like to get creative and alter the things I find at thrift shops to make them my own.

CA- And thats why we love you! Rolling with the thrifty-DIY craze sweeping the nation! Well your obviously interested in all things beauty! What would your best beauty tip be??

Hyer- Decide what your best feature is and make a point to accent it. Then focus on it in your thoughts, as awkward as that might seem. I think a big part of beauty is mental. We spend too much time criticizing ourselves, and purposefully thinking about what you like will keep your thoughts from going negative. If you feel good, you'll smile more and be comfortable, which will draw out your natural beauty.

CA- What amazing advice! Thats a really good tip to people of any age. Speaking of beauty.... smelling beautiful can never hurt! Whats your favorite fragrance?
Hyer- The original Ed Hardy for women!

CA- Classic! What about your fave hairstyle?
Hyer- I tend to let my hair by naturally curly most of the time. But I also like curling it with a 2 inch iron for loose waves. I think messy buns are an easy go-to style that always looks cute too.

CA- Well whatever your doing it's working!I'll need your autograph later #officiallyinspired

Alaina's trip to NYC!

I was lucky enough to attend TEEN VOGUE Fashion University, an exclusive weekend-long event for "the fashion focused leaders of tomorrow." I was part of a select group of students who were able to attend classes, ask questions, and hear firsthand from the top names in the industry. I specifically attended a session with the TEEN VOGUE editors, Danielle + Jodie Snyder of DANNIJO, Nanette Lepore, Christian Sirano, and Coco Rocha.

That's not all though - TEEN VOGUE had other classes with amazingly influential people including: Alexa Chung, Eddie Borgo, Livia Marotta of BULGARI, Thankoon and so much more!! There were also two different shopping events, one at Express and the other at Top Shop. I had an absolute blast and learned soooo much! I left my weekend in New York completely inspired, motivated for my future career in the industry!

New York is such an inspiring city just by itself but being able to attend all the classes I did, meet all the designers, editors, and models and even all the TEEN VOGUE fashion U students was absolutely spectacular!
My courses were held in the Hudson Theatre and the Conde' Nast Building (where all the biggest magazine names are) in NYC.

They had the kickoff celebration and shopping event at Express. They had a DJ, mocktails, fancy appetizers, Dream Dry (established by Rachel Zoe) Beauty studio doing hair, A photo booth and every TVU student got 20% off!! I had so much fun and did it all! Check out #fashionu or #TVFU to see more pictures on twitter or instagram.

The next day I had my classes! Right when I walked in I was handed my complimentary swag bag full of cool stuff, so I thought the day couldn't get any better but it most definitely did!! They had photographers taking pictures, a hair studio giving away Pantene products, jewelry giveaways, drawings, music pumping and 500 incredibly fashionable students from all over the world to talk and network with!

I made a plaid circle skirt and matching crop top
with faux fur cap sleeves for my big day!

After everyone settled down we sat down in the big theatres and there it started! We were introduced to the whole board of TEEN VOGUE editors!!!

That very night they held the Shopping event at TopShop! I changed really quickly and grabbed a cab and headed to the big event! I had never been there and I instantly fell in love! The clothes were cuter than any I had ever seen, I was in absolute heaven! They had a great DJ, waitresses walking around with long trays of gourmet sweet treats and a bar with all sorts of drinks! If you spent $100 ,which was incredibly easy to do, you could get something you bought monogrammed with your initials and a free gift. I got to network and socialize with all the students and editors, it was the perfect ending to the perfect day!

Some of the adorable treats they had! Mini creamsicle Popsicles... too adorable for words!

Everyone wrote their TOPSHOP fashion goals for the year and posted them.

They had adorable pale blue oversized jacket and skirt sets! I wanted one so bad!!

Sweater Dress: The Fall Essential

I had recently bought a basic black classic sweater dress from H&M in attempts to pull together my fall wardrobe. I loved the versatility and how many different ways it could be worn…… and it was super comfy and warm!!  I paired it with a leopard print collared shirt and a classic gold chain to break up the black. I cant wait to wear it again and again, and I think the sweater dress is an essential for any ones fall wardrobe.

  •  tights, tall boots, big printed scarf, skinny belt
  •  beanie hat, gold accessories, fucia lips
  • combat boots, printed nylons, statement neclace
  • ancle boots, chambaray shirt, belt
  • thigh high socks, wedge shoes, and big sunnies and bag
  • and so much more

I was Inspired by Amanda Seyfreid’s girly grunge photo shoot in the August issue of ELLE. She looked natural, clean and beautiful and it made her lips really pop!  See the article here. They created the perfect modern-day grunge girl makeup look.  Makeup artist Polly Osmond: only used  a deep red Clé de Peau Beauté lipstick. Other than that, she was barefaced—and rocked it. I decided to try out the look for myself.  I applied dark lipstick, brushed my hair out and walked right out the door!

Thanks for listening!!
